King James Version, with Nii Okai's journal notes · 3 notes
1And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.
This was Joshua who was high priest in the times of Zechariah and Ezrah. I used to think it was Joshua the leader of israel after Moses.
I was wrong because I lacked context.
Right after commanding all flesh to be silent before the lord we see satan standing to accuse the high priest of the lord
Zechariah 2:13 (KJV)
13 Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.

2And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?
The high priest it seem was representing the whole of Jerusalem in this scene. Indeed the High priest represents all the people.
And here GOD was telling satan that can't he see that these poeple have just escaped the fire. Their are already in a great mess. Indeed they did not escape the fire unscathed, they actually were plucked out of it,
So why accuse them. What more did he want from them.
This goes to show the nature fo the accuser, he is wicked and will not rest even after seeing the untold sufferings and hardship and punishement Gods people go through.
Interestingly Israel had just returned from punishement only to be accused fresh by satan.
We are later told in the next verses that joshua had to be given a clean garment.
Meaning as high priest he had presented himself and the people he represented before GOD without the right adornment, indeed in rag which in itself merited the death penalty and possible wrath upon the people.
But these people were just picking up the pieces of their lives. Times had greatly changed and they were just getting by and now here we see the devil come with fresh accusation.
Accusations they could not answer because indeed their high priest was wrongly adorned with filthy rags.
But if he had better adornment or knew better why would he dress such. But in his love and quest to keep the commandments of GOD he came with what he had and the lord rebuked satan and defended the high priest and his people.
Interestingly GOD the judge did not leave the case as is but immediately asked for Joshua's garment to be changed. Meaning satan point was technically right and joshua needed to do the right thing, and look right.
So GOD had him adorned right, this is grace and mercy and the favour of the lord at work
3Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.
4And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.
5And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.
6And the angel of the LORD protested unto Joshua, saying,
7Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.
8Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.
9For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.
10In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree.
