King James Version, with Nii Okai's journal notes · 17 notes
1And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
The same creative element of naming is unveiled here, she calls her son Cain... A name with specific meaning.
2And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
Where is this coming from? Why does God need an offering? When did God instruct them to start giving an offering? Cain's offering was rejected. Why? Cain brought based on the work he did as did Abel.
4And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
How did Cain and Abel know to sacrifice? Who initiated it for them to know to follow? In subsequent chapters we see the descendants of Adam showing skill in many crafts including tent-making, metal crafts etc. Who taught them all these?
Probably Adam or they just had the sense to. Considering the fact that Adam was born with super intelligence and lost his place of dominion when he sinned. From these facts, man was not born as a cave man and started to evolve into a more intelligent life form.
Man was created fully intelligent and knowing many things let’s say instinctively.
Wait oo... GOD HAD respect as in how? What did God do to show respect?
This is the book of beginnings. So we see a lot of first mention of things.
How did God show he preferred Abel's offering to Cain's? We are not told. Why did God prefer Abel's over Cain's? We are not told.
5But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
Why was Cain angry 😡 especially considering that he knew what was right? Was he angry at God or his brother or both? He was not just angry... He was very angry. Probably he felt, after all the hard work from the cursed 🤬 ground which would only yield after much sweat and toil, his work was all to no avail.
Also, he had lost the fruits 🥝 for no reason.
6And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
From this statement it seems Cain knew what he was supposed to have done but just refused to do it.
It desired to have Cain. Sin's desire was to have Cain. Control 🎮 him to do as it pleases.
Now that makes me wonder, what is sin? Is it a spirit or is it a property, like a programming which is part of the human being? Like the way wrong software (viruses) can be introduced to a computer 🖥 system.
It hacks the program and causes the hardware as well as software to malfunction.
Sin is everything evil, man was created to love, have joy happiness, help each other grow their family 👪 etc.
That is man's programming. It's inherent. Then comes sin introduced into man's programming. So now we do good and do evil.
Why was Cain angry 😡 especially considering that he knew what was right? Was he angry at God or his brother or both?
He was not just angry... He was very angry.
Probably he felt after all the hard work from the cursed 🤬 ground which will only yield after much sacrifice, his work was all to no avail.
And he had also lost the fruits 🥝 for no reason.
8And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
Why didn’t God protect Abel from Cain?
9And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?
GOD was still in active conversation with them.
Why does God not do anything to interrupt the world 🗺 and this gruesome murder of an innocent man 👨?
Same thing when Adam was eating the fruit. 🍏 It was like God didn't care.
10And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.
Despite God's warning Cain let sin in and killed his brother.
God told Cain what was about to happen to him. That sin was lying at the door 🚪.
DOOR?? 😳 What door, Adam and his generation seem very advanced and rightly so considering that they lived in paradise in the garden of Eden.
I wouldn't be surprised if ADAM lived in a mansion in the garden. He knew much from his interactions with God.
Back to the door, God paints 🎨 the picture 🖼 of sin being separate from the man 👨.
So Cain is wroth over nothing and sin comes to lie at the door 🚪. And it eventually was let in.
Was this not what God wanted to avoid that was why man was not to eat of the fruit?
So also Cain was wroth for no reason at all, well for a completely wrong reason. Yet he felt justified.
SIN brings along with it a lot of negative emotional surges and to deal with that emotion we go ahead and act the way we feel so we can feel better and get rid of the negative feelings.
The door also shows us that in man is a door 🚪 a door to the soul I believe which before the fall was shut to sin but after the fall could be opened 🔓 and closed 🔐 by sin.
11And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;
12When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
13And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
note 1
He was in the earth 🌎, walked in it yet was driven away from it. How was that possible 🙆? In a sense to walk and plant 🌿 yet the earth would not yield anything to you. Then Cain indeed was an outcast.
note 2
He was walking in the earth yet had been driven from the face of the earth. In the sense that the earth 🌎 no longer responded to and supported him. He was like an outcast so even when he sows, it will yield nothing.
That's strange, so how was he to eat?
Cain immediately knew the implication of God's curse upon him.
He knew that the pronouncements of God against him were invariably the death sentence.
Because to lose favour from the face of God and to be rejected from the earth yet have to live the rest of your life on the earth 🌎.
He was done for.
It's like when you are given a prison sentence. You immediately know the implications of that for your family 👪, children, your life and career.
It's so many things in one.
Lord give us the wisdom and discernment to hear and understand your voice.
15And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
I don't get the conversation going on here.. Why would anyone finding Cain kill him?
Was such wickedness already on the earth 🌎? It seems that Cain and Co were receiving some solace, protection and favour by being close to God and seeking his face through offerings etc.
Else why would he complain of losing out by the lord's face being hid from him?
Also it seems by this time men had really multiplied... For one to chance on Cain out there.
Or could it mean the sons of the angels were already here?
So what if Cain hadn't appealed his sentence?
The kind of father son relationship and dialogue that these ancient ones had with God.
How come we do differently and approach God, even as new testament saints, with such ungodly fear 😱.
Meanwhile we can dialogue and reason with him.
16And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
Ei... How and when?
Where was the presence of the lord?? 😳 It seems that although they had been driven out of the garden they had some form of communication going on between them and God. And that constant fellowship in his presence brought them protection from the world out there. Cain went east of Eden.. So where was he prior?
Were they hanging around the garden with the hope of getting back? Because so far it looks like the family 👪 of Adam was together. Adam, Eve and Cain and Abel.
17And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
18And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
19And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
20And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
21And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
Uuuu
22And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-cain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.
23And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
Was the curse only in Cain or his generations?
God being just I believe the curse 🤬 stayed with Cain only.
24If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
25And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
26And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.
